Our first 7 days – or part there of…..

So…. it has been 7 days since our lives have been turned upside down.

What can we say other than what an eye opener, it would be really easy to sink into a negative slump and let this shit beat us, but that just is not who we are.

So just to bring you up to speed, at 1800hrs on Wednesday the 27th December 2017, we were training at the Bunbury BMX Club when Cory had a big fall. Both Shona and I were present at the time along with one of Cory’s closest training partners and BMX buddies.

We promptly presented to Cory and quickly assessed the situation realising immediately that something was horribly wrong. Cory layed there upside down, motionless on the ground and in a calm manner responded to my questions.

Dad: “Ok Cocko, are you alright”
Cory: “Yes Dad, my back hurts though”
Dad: “Ok matie, do you know where we are”
Cory: “Ummm, at the track”

This went on as we checked him out for a minute or so until….

Dad: Can you feel your feet mate?
Cory: No, are they ok?

This is the point where things really became real.  Cory was an absolute trooper, he didn’t once get panicked or stressed, he simply answered my questions as we stabilised him while we awaited the Paramedics to arrive. It seemed like almost immediately we could hear the sirens, although it did not seem like they arrived on the scene immediately!

When Paramedics Troy and Naomi arrived, they quickly assessed him before we were able to get him onto some O2 and into a T-Pod, Neckbrace and onto a Spinal Board to extract him from the track and get him to where the trolley was parked before we could even begin the long journey back to the Ambulance.

Well, I am pretty bloody tired, Shona has just left PMH headed back to Ronald McDonald House for the evening (or whats left of it..) and Cory is asleep, so I will continue our journey of the last week, tomorrow.

Much love

The Crombies
